First Bembibre’s Botillo Festival took place with the tasting of botillos in the meal. A year later, the local media highlighted the following about the botillo: “Food with a high energy intake and that is usually consumed in cold weather. During the celebration, it was decided to modify the event calendar and change the lunch for a dinner”.
In 1975 there was a turning point that would mark the future of the gastronomic event, setting the exact date for its celebration.
It is not a specific day, fixed on the calendar, but rather a rule that must be followed depending on the carnival date. Therefore, the festival takes place “the Saturday preceding the Saturday of Carnival”. However, almost every year, the festival takes place in February and hardly ever at the end of January.
