Gala of the LI Bembibre´s National Festival for the Exaltation of Botillo

The Bembibre´s National Festival for the Exaltation of Botillo has added to the 51st edition with an event in which the role of women is emphasised in all aspects. With the hostess, Lourdes Maldonado and the musical performance of Merche; the winner of the Literary Contest, which this year was Yolanda Navarro; with the line of Chronicling the role of cape verdian women; and the inclusion of the mayor and the Councillor for Culture, Tourism, Trade and Festivals, Silvia Cao and Belén Martín, respectively.

The Manuel Marqués Patarita pavilion hosted both the Gala of the event and the subsequent dinner, which was attended by more than 1,400 people.

At the gala, she declared her “love” for Bembibre, she drew a Parallel between the production of a botillo and that of the production of a good news programme, with all the steps she knew how to extrapolate in her speech with numerous compliments to Bembibre and its people. Without forgetting the optimistic messages of facing the future in the context of decarbonization, praising the quality of life of the town of Bembibre.

Merche was in charge of arranging the musical performance with a review of the twenty years of her musical career. She surprised the audience with an acoustic format in which some of the most notable songs of the artist from Cadiz were played, many of them with the accompaniment of the audience who knew the lyrics of popular songs such as “No me pidas más amor”, “Le deseo”, “Si te marchas” or “Abre tu mente”.

Many people attended to enjoy the event, which was presented by journalists Miguel Ángel Blanco and Olaia Rueda. Officials such as the Minister of Development and Environment of the Junta de Castilla y León, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones, the head of the PSOE opposition in the Parliament, Luis Tudanca, the sub-delegate of the Government in León, Faustino Sánchez, the president of the Provincial Council of León, Gerardo Álvarez Courel, as well as deputies and senators for the province of León and other regional representatives did not miss this event either.

The videos that were shown focused on the Cape Verdean community and the role of Cape Verdean women. One of the highlights was the first International Botillo Festival in Cape Verde.

Another of the videos showed a review of the different twinnings of the town since 2016, formalizes the City Council of Bembibre and its Botillo Festival. First it was areas which shared a common ingredient with the botillo sausage, with the second part showing institutions that have some link to Bembibre

The twinning of this edition was with the Casa de León in A Coruña, whose president, Avelino Abajo, participated in the act in the plenary hall of Bembibre and later in the dinner of exaltation of the botillo. The president of this group that, in practice, turns the citizens of Leonese origin in A Coruña into ambassadors of their land, reminded the people from Bierzo that they have in the Galician city “a piece of Leon in everything they need”, becoming a recreational, cultural and tourist center.
