El Botillo, essential in the Gastronomic Days of El Bierzo

T

The XXXVII Gastronomic Days of El Bierzo are already underway. With thirty restaurants in the region and one in Valdeorras, this event will offer the public the most relevant products of the land. An edition that was attended by the scientist Saúl Ares, chairman of this Botillo Festival edition. Ares did not overlook his family tradition linked to the countryside in El Bierzo, between Villadepalos and Berlanga.

For just over a month and a half, the participating restaurants expect more than 30,000 visitors to enjoy Bierzo in its purest form.

Rennet apple, conference pear, chestnuts or Bierzo pepper are some of the ingredients that are present in the recipes of different restaurants. But, if there is a dish that cannot be missed, it is Botillo.

It has become one of the ‘star’ dishes due to its tradition and cultural character. It really contributes in a good way to the gastronomy of the region. Not surprisingly, when the cold arrives it is one of the most grateful products for its high caloric component.

In El Bierzo there are many restaurants that choose to include this meat-stuffed dish among their menus for Gastronomic Days. But, if there is something iconic in Bierzo gastronomy that it never disappoints whatever the main dish or its ingredients.

Bierzo meat, the fish, the octopus or the cod are part of Bierzo’s gastronomic tradition; trout can be found in the region rivers; cheeses, mushrooms, cherries…

A good time for mouth-watering, from October 22nd to December 12th, the Bierzo Gastronomic Days are going to prepare us for the gastronomic event next February: the XLIX Bembibre’s National Festival for the Exaltation of Botillo.
