Approval of the rules for the Botillo Pinchos Competition

The Sectorial Council of Commerce has approved today the rules of the Contest of “Pinchos del Botillo”, which will take place in the framework of the XIII Jornadas de Pinchos del Botillo on the last weekend of January and first weekend of February. The document has been agreed with the hotel and catering sector and presents two important new features which differ from previous years.

The main new aspect is the reinstatement of the popular jury, whose vote will be included into that of the general jury appointed by the Sectorial Council of Commerce.

Anyone will be able to be a member of the jury in the Contest of Pinchos del Botillo. The only requirement for participation will be to visit all the registered establishments, which will be accredited with a stamp for each visit made. At the end a ham will be raffled among all participants as a thank you for their involvement in the Jornadas de Pinchos del Botillo.

The general jury will award 1 to 5 points on the following criteria: taste, originality in the design, and difficulty in the elaboration. It will also award an extra point for the decoration of the premises, which will be added to the total obtained.

Price of the pincho

On January 4, the rules were approved that contemplated a price of 1.50 euros per skewer, in accordance with the proposal of the hoteliers themselves. Once published and with their dissemination, hoteliers have requested a modification to allow a price range of 1 euro to 1.50 euros, at the discretion of each establishment.

As a condition, participants must show a photo of the participating pincho and the price in a clearly visible place so that customers are aware of the price before ordering the botillo pincho.

Information that will also be duly published on the official website of the Festival del Botillo, festivaldelbotillo.com.

Incentive to participate

In addition, as an incentive to the inscription, the Sectorial Council of Commerce will make a contribution of 100€ to each participating bar as long as they have met all of the criteria by the end of the contest.

Registration, which will be free for those interested, will be open from January 8th to 12th, on the second floor of the Town Hall of Bembibre (Araceli).

The establishments will receive three main prizes, The first being a plaque and a weekend away for two people; The second a plaque and dinner for two at the Restaurante La Piedra; and the third prize consisting of a plaque and a ham. The fourth, fifth and sixth winners will receive recognition with a commemorative plaque.

The XIII Jornadas de Pinchos del Botillo will take place on January 26th, 27th and 28th, and February 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
