Carmen Calvo Poyato (CabraJune 7th, 1957) is a constitutional jurist, university lecturer and politician in the Socialist Party (PSOE). In April 2004, a few months before Bembibre’s Botillo Festival, she was appointed Minister of Culture of the Government with José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

Bembibre did not overlook the appointment of the new Minister at a time when the project the House of Culture and Alto Bierzo Museum was ongoing already.

Doctor in Constitutional Law, previously Minister of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía (2000-2004). She became part of Zapatero’s campaign committee with her sights set on the general elections of March 2004.

Lecturer (on leave) of Constitutional Law at the University of Córdoba. She also assumed the position of Secretary General and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law (1990-1994). From 1992 to 1996 she was secretary of the Andalusian Interuniversity Institute of Criminology.
