The socialist politician -already retired- Paco Vázquez served as chairman of the XLII Bembibre’s National Festival for the Exaltation of Botillo. He was mayor of La Coruña, president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, member of the Spanish Parliament (1977-2000) and Senator (2000-2006). Likewise, he was elected Ambassador of Spain to the Holy See.

Born in La Coruña, on April 9th, 1946. Doctor of Law and Labor Inspector, although his public figure stands out for his link with the Socialist Party in Galicia (since mid-1970s in underground) and for being mayor of La Coruña for 23 years, since 1983.

In 2014 he retired from active politics. Then he left PSOE, after becoming Ambassador of Spain in the Holy See until 2011.
