The Bembibre’s Botillo Festival continues to gain followers after the extraordinary reception of the XLIX edition

Bembibre wanted to enjoy his National Botillo Exaltation Festival again after the suspension of activities in 2021 due to Covid-19. For this reason, it is not surprising that this 49th edition returned in style, and in fact the mayor of Bembibre, Silvia Cao, during her speech was no stranger to the health emergency experienced until recently, although it has not yet been reached normal.

Luis Larrodera and Pastora Soler were the protagonists of the day. The first, in his role as maintainer, who acted as maintainer of our most emblematic sausage. With a humorous speech, and in verse, in which he told us about his experience with the sausage -which he had not yet tried-, despite the different attempts. And it would not be by chance, but everything seemed to indicate that the botillo had to be tasted at the Bembibre Festival.

So it was. Patient, after the institutional act and musical performance, Luis Larrodera tasted the sausage, emphasizing its flavor, but marveling at its ability to bring together thousands of people each year at the gala dinner in which talking about botillo is not only talking about cooking, but of culture and tradition.

But at the gala, presented by Jesús González and Beatriz Robleda, there were other important moments. The sewing workshop centered the prominence of the cultural week, making known the work that it has been developing since the mid-1980s, founded by Ángeles Alonso Rubio. An emotional moment, as have also been the exhibition and the round table to culminate with the tribute of the Bembibre’s National Festival for the Exaltation of Botillo in the central act, decked out for the occasion.

As usual, the National Festival of Exaltation of the Botillo serves to formalize the twinning that began in 2016, first with towns in which a product or ingredient related to the sausage is present and, in a second moment, with institutions who have some link with Bembibre.

This year it has been with the Casa de León in Seville through the Botillo Exaltation Festival held in the Seville capital, thanks to the organization and promotion of the Casa de León, currently chaired by Aniano Bobis.

To end the gala, Pastora Soler got the audience up with some of her songs with which she showed us why she is one of the most outstanding artists on the national scene. His powerful voice and his interpretive capacity gave rise to different interruptions with loud applause until he finished with the song that he presented to Eurovision, “Stay with me”, which gave the goosebumps to end the reunion gala.

To finish, the dinner, with a thousand diners, in which the Bembibrenses lavished affection on the two exceptional guests, who returned with their closeness and tact during the banquet.

A party that, in addition, receives the support of very varied institutions through its public positions. In this XLIX Bembibre’s National Festival for the Exaltation of Botillo we have personalities such as the president of the Diputación de León, Eduardo Morán; the sub-delegate of the Government in León, Faustino Sánchez; the territorial delegate of the Junta de Castilla y León, Ester Muñoz; the spokesman for the PSOE in the Cortes of Castilla y León and candidate for the presidency of the Junta, Luis Tudanca;

In sight we have a new edition of the Bembibre’s National Festival for the Exaltation of Botillo on the fiftieth anniversary that will be celebrated next year. An edition that, they anticipate, will be very special, and for which the mayor has already announced that they will begin to seek recognition of international tourist interest.

And, following the formula established in 1975 of the “Saturday that precedes Carnival Saturday”, the L Bembibre’s National Festival for the Exaltation of Botillo will be on February 11. We have less than 11 months left!
